Foods and Drinks and Migraines

Migraines are a tough thing to live with. However, did you know that what you eat and drink can play an active role on when your migraine is triggered? That’s right. They can do this. Here are a few things that can be found in drinks and the foods you eat which could be the cause of why the migraines start in the first place.

The first thing is caffeine. Caffeine is one thing that those who have migraines are told to lay off of. Caffeine isn’t only addictive, but it is a trigger of migraines. It is said that both too much and too little of caffeine can actually trigger these migraines. So, you do have to be careful and monitor how much caffeine you take in.

Amino acids are something else that you have to be careful of. There are some amino acids that you need to stay away from or watch how much you consume. This is called tyramine. This can be found in chocolate which would be the reason that many list chocolate as a trigger food. The way it does this is that it reduces the serotonin levels.
Many of us have heard about MSG. This was being put into the glaze of ham. This is another well-known trigger of these migraines that so many speak about having. For some people it might trigger them. For others, it might not have the same effect. It has been studied and did cause them in some people.

The last thing that we will note that is said to have an effect on people with migraines is said to be gluten. If you have migraines, then it’s proper to eliminate gluten from your diet. This is something that many have done and have found that it had helped them greatly as it decreased the inflammation in the central nervous system. All these things can be done to help you in the long run.
